Ecotone

Tropical Contemporary presents, Ecotone, a two-person exhibition by Maddison Colvin and Laura King. Ecotone employs a range of media including painting, video, and works on paper.

Every space is defined by its boundaries- delineations that are shaped, altered, and broken in turn. Laura King and Maddison Colvin are interested in the tensions created by these imposed borders. In their work, they determine, maintain, and sometimes rupture surfaces and spaces. The impulse to contain is met by containment's’ failure. Built environments, ways of seeing, forms, territories - all are subject to invisible laws of resistance. How do we determine and maintain the edges of our environments? Do we practice exhaustive maintenance and constant pruning? Perhaps we wrestle against lines of territory that press up against us- or allow our spaces to be flooded by gradients of change.

The opening reception for Ecotone will be on Friday, February 16th from 6-9pm. Gallery hours will be on Saturday and Sunday from 1-4pm until February 25th.
